You discover the gold thing is surprisingly hard to kill. If you do not slay it completely in a single turn, it regenerates back to the MR of the wandering monster. Try for a L1SR on INT. If you make it, you can switch your combat damage to the wandering monster and go to 5H next turn. If you missed the saving roll, and aren't dead yet, fight again, and repeat this paragraph.
