Tunnels & Trolls : Gristlegrim Room 616--Starburst Trap

This is a standard Gristlegrim room with doors in the north and south walls only. There is a staircase leading up in the northeast corner.

Signs on the walls say TREASURE IN CENTER.

The floor is painted with a 12-pointed star in gold. Three rays reach out from the center to each of the walls. In the center of the room there appears to be a large mound of gold pieces.

  • If players simply walk directly toward the center of the room, ignoring the star beams painted on the floor, they will find themselves stopped by an invisible barrier about 10 feet from the gold. They can see through the barrier, but they can't penetrate it in any way.
  • If they start at the edge of a room and walk along a painted ray, then they can walk all the way to the center, but when they try to touch or take any of the gold, they will be teleported to another room randomly in Gristlegrim, and when they get there, they will be attacked by a random monster from monster control which is of the same level as the level they were teleported to. That is, roll 1D6, teleport the delver to an empty standard room on the level rolled, and attack him with a random monster of the same level. If the delver wins the fight, the one door leading out of that room will go to the Dwarven Temple far below, and the delver will have escaped from Gristlegim.
