Tunnels & Trolls : Gristlegrim Room 228--The Baba Goblin Room

This is one of Gristlegrim's standard rooms--100 feet cubical. It is not very interesting to look at, but in the exact center there are six enormous vases, each about 6 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. They are carved from green jadite. Each is stoppered with a wax plug with a few small holes in it.

There is a sign on one wall in Dwarvish runes. It reads: "Take the treasure and consider yourself lucky." Nothing but the background magic can be detected in this room.

In reality, each jar holds a goblin warrior in a solution of pickle juice. Yes, they are pickled goblins. They are ready to burst forth and slaughter anyone who messes with their pickle jars. Even a touch on any of the six jars will cause the lurking goblins to strike out, break the jars, and attack. Each goblin has a monster rating of 50. (6D6 + 25) in combat. They are wearing purple goblin armor, and are armed with poisoned kukris. Any delver who takes damage from the goblins is poisoned and will lose 1D6 CON points each combat round for 6 rounds.

If the Goblins are slain and searched, they will each have a pouch of 6D6 gold pieces and 1 random gem from the random jewel generator in the T & T rules.

If the delvers ignore the jars and just sit around doing nothing much in the room for 10 game minutes, Monster Control will teleport one or more random monsters in to get them going again. All delvers make their level 2 saving roll on Luck. If anyone misses it, a goblin jar is touched, and the goblins all break out and join the fight.

This room has sliding doors on the north, and south walls, requiring strengths of 9 to open.
